Triton is known for being technically strong and pragmatic in its approach. Triton’s multi-disciplinary team comprises environmental professionals specializing in aquatic and terrestrial biology, soil science, vegetation ecology, environmental assessment, environmental auditing, construction environmental monitoring/inspection, and resource management. We apply this wide range of expertise in providing practical environmental solutions to our clients.
The successful candidate will be responsible for fulfilling the role of Biologist whose responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Oversee the daily field planning and implementation of a large-scale fish salvage for a major energy project in northern BC.
- Provide recommendations and lead avian and amphibian field programs during respective annual breeding windows.
- Supervise teams of biologists and technicians responsible for in-field program delivery.
- Act as a mentor to junior and intermediate staff, including providing guidance, troubleshooting, and delivering on-site training (e.g., backpack electrofishing techniques).
- Be a primary client contact for technical matters, including attending and facilitating daily and weekly project meetings.
- Develop and present technical information to clients, contractors, and relevant stakeholders.
- Liaise with construction contractors and provide guidance on potential impacts of work activities in relation to biological field programs.
- Analyze, evaluate, and interpret field data using appropriate software programs.
- Provide technical plans, procedures, and reports to clients and regulatory agencies for various work scopes.
- Promote a safety focussed work environment, that drives project safety goals and initiatives.
- Work collaboratively within the Triton corporate culture.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Qualified Environmental Professional (QEP); registered with the Association of Professional Biologists (P.Biol.) or Registered Professional Biologist (R.P.Bio.)
- University degree in Environmental Science, Biology, or Ecology-related field
- 7+ years of progressive experience in the environmental field, with previous experience supervising/leading field teams preferred
- Knowledgeable in planning and implementing scientific field studies, including the collection of fisheries/aquatic data
- Demonstrated experience coordinating multi-disciplinary programs and delivering these within key milestones
- Familiar with relevant legislation and procedures and permit application processes (e.g. Wildlife Act, Fisheries Act, Species at Risk Act, etc.). Experience operating under a Fisheries Act Authorization is an asset.
- Willingness to work on a rotation basis, camp-based etc. as this is a combination of a field/office position
- Technical knowledge in aquatic ecology including fish habitat
- Excellent fish sampling (using various techniques); handling and identification skills
- Extensive field experience leading aquatic and fisheries programs
- Adept in the operation and maintenance of required field equipment (such as electrofishers and water quality monitoring related equipment)
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
- Strong interpersonal skills and collaborative working style
- Superior problem-solving skills, with the ability to think outside the box and with minimal supervision
- Proficient in the operation of off-highway vehicles such as 4-wheel drive trucks and UTVs
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence
