Triton Environmental Consultants Ltd. (Triton) is seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic individual to join a well‑established team of environmental professionals at any of our office locations, including Edmonton, Calgary, Kamloops, Prince George, Terrace, or Vancouver, to fill the position of Vegetation and Wetlands Ecologist.

THE ROLE

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing wetland and vegetation expertise to the field staff and project management teams. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

 

• Leading vascular and non-vascular plant surveys, including rare plants
• Advising and implementing construction mitigation for plants
• Classification, delineation, and monitoring of wetlands in pre-construction and construction settings
• Weed survey and mitigation
• Providing technical vegetation and wetland leadership to collaborative project teams
• Supervising and mentoring vegetation and wetland field staff
• Planning, leading, and reporting phases for vegetation and wetland components of major projects
• Leading and contributing to reporting and permitting deliverables
• Representing Triton in correspondence with client representatives, contractors, and peers
• Contributing to Triton’s collaborative, safety-conscious culture

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

 

• BSc. or M.Sc. in biology or related field
• Biol., P.Ag., R.P.Bio., or equivalent registration with a professional regulatory body is required.
• Minimum five years of experience leading vegetation and wetland inventory, classification, delineation, and mitigation projects
• Rare plant survey and salvage/translocation experience an asset
• Seed collection experience an asset
• Experience surveying, characterizing, and delineating wetlands, and plant communities across western Canada
• Registered or eligible for registration as a Wetland Authenticating Professional in Alberta
• Ability to lead work in physically demanding remote field settings for extended durations, staying in a mix of camp and/or hotel accommodations
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills
• Proficient in the operation of off-highway vehicles
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license
